Dear Asbury Families,
At Asbury, it is crucial that students feel safe and that means ensuring we are having education and supports around anti-bullying. We are a school that has a zero-tolerance policy against bullying. We support this initiative in many ways, including:
In addition to all of these resources, the district has also shared a bully resource guide. Please see below for ways you can support the anti-bully work at home:
Bullying Resource Guide: What It Is, Signs to Watch For and How to Action
Over the summer, experts at the Colorado Department of Education, the Denver-based Bullying Recovery Resource Center and the Jefferson Center, a nonprofit mental health provider, created a resource guide on bullying. This Chalkbeat Colorado guide answers frequently asked questions, bullying resources and helpful ways to support your child.
To support the whole child, DPS is committed to creating conditions where bullying doesn’t exist. For additional information, as well as strategies for prevention and intervention, access the DPS School Culture/Bullying Prevention one-pager.
In Partnership,

2024 Denver Bond FAQ Now Available
If you’ve been reading about the 2024 Bond and want to understand what a school bond is, you’re in the right place. Watch our first 2024 Bond FAQ reel today! Included in this bond is the funding for Asbury’s AC among other projects that will benefit our building!
The 2024 Bond will be presented to Denver voters on Nov. 5. If passed, it will not increase taxes for Denverites.
Working Group-Wondering about leaves and how they impact the hiring process?
At Asbury and across the district, when we hire for a long term sub, we can only hire the sub for so many contract days before they would need to sign a waiver or we would need to hire them in a one year position, which is very expensive. Prior to this year and the passing of FAMLI+, teachers have not taken long leaves. If you are interested in joining a working group at Asbury to explore this topic, determine next steps and talk about how we would like to advocate for students, please reach out to Jeanna.
Volunteering At Asbury
We love our volunteers at Asbury. Work with your teachers and PTSO for ways to get involved at Asbury. Every year, volunteers will have to get background checks to support in the school building. For more information, please check out this website that provides all the information and next steps to volunteer.
Statement on the Tragedy at Apalachee High School
If you didn’t get a chance to read through Dr. Marraro’s statement about the tragedy in Georgia earlier, please take a moment to read through this email communication. It shares information as well as resources on grief and supporting on dealing with tragedy.
Monthly Fire Drill Practice
As a reminder, all schools must do a monthly fire drill. During this time, students and staff practice how to walk out of the building safely and go to the safe space outside of the building. These practice fire drills generally take between 5-7 minutes to complete and are important to ensure we are practicing.
Looking for a Specials Team Supporter
We are looking for one parent who would love to be our Specials Team Supporter! You will check in monthly with our Specials teachers, which includes music, pe, art, and tech. Community Circle on 9/20: We will have our first Community Circle on Friday, September 20 starting at 7:50 in person in the auditorium! Community Circle is a time for the whole school to come together and celebrate being Eagles! We plan to end by 8:20 and be on the lookout for an updated specials schedule for this day! Please feel free to join us, if you would like!

Marketing Team/100 Year Planning Committee
Asbury’s 100 year anniversary is coming up next school year (I know we have just started this school year)- that said, it is going to be amazing and to support this amazingness, we have a committee that is centered around planning for this party! If you are interested, we would love your help with planning- we will meet monthly on mondays. Please reach out to Jeanna if you are interested!
Dogs At Asbury
DPS has a no dog policy at schools across the district. Please make sure to adhere to this even during non-school hours. We do have signs up indicating that there should be no dogs. Your family pets that walk with you to school should not be coming to school either in the morning or at pick up. If you need to bring your dog, please leave them off school property to ensure we are all following the DPS expectation of no dogs at school.
