Principal Message:

Asbury Community,

These are my favorite couple of weeks of the school year- with READ-A-Thon and Math-A-Thon going. During these two weeks we focus on reading and math in the classroom and at home. Students get time to read during read-a-thon and during math-a-thon they focus on building and mastering their math skills they are working on! We have prizes, celebrations and work on growing students mastery in math and literacy- what is not to love about these two weeks.

Special shout out to parents, teachers and staff who make these weeks special for students!

Also, don’t forget to join us March 15 at 2:00 on the blacktop for our in person Community Circle! During this Community Circle we will be celebrating our top three readers and mathematicians. During this celebration, these winners will be throwing pie in three staff members’ faces!

In Partnership,

Jeanna Doung

Shuler Spotlight Series Video Podcast Link

  • We had an opportunity to do a video podcast with another elementary school in Iowa.  Thank you to the Holstine family for making this connection!
  • We had an application that 4th and 5th graders could fill out to be a part of this process if they were interested and then students were randomly chosen.
  • Michael, Rhys, Adilyn, Alexa, Andrew, and Elsa

Mental Health Minute

Parent/Caregiver Training Opportunity

Please join us during the April 9th PTSO meeting for parent/caregiver suicide prevention training. Our staff recently went through this training and found it very impactful. You will walk away knowing the warning signs, risk factors, and equipped with strategies to support someone who is experiencing suicidal ideation. This is a sensitive but important topic and I look forward to partnering with the Asbury community to increase awareness and empower everyone to take action. If you or someone you know are  in crisis, please contact Safe2Tell at 1-877-542-7233 or the Colorado Crisis Services at 1-844-493-8255 to get connected with resources.

Social Media Safety Training for Families

The Family of Community Engagement is offering a Social Media Safety for Families Workshop on March 12 from 5-6 p.m. This session will provide resources and tips for families on the dangers of social media and how to help students stay safe and smart online. Families will gain valuable information and collaborate with other families on technology safety solutions. We will launch an interactive training module for DPS families as well to use after this session and receive certification they have completed the training. Families can learn more and RSVP here.

CMAS Testing Schedule for 3rd-5th graders

  • Testing Schedule – Please save the dates and plan accordingly with trips/appointments/etc.  Attendance is important during this testing window.  Thank you in advance.
    • Note:  All students will follow this schedule, but depending on accommodations that your student may have according to their IEP or 504 plan, they may test in the afternoon on these days instead of the morning.  Also, if we have proctor absences during testing we may need to reschedule testing to the make-up weeks for students with 1:1 accommodations.  FYI.
  • CMAS Parent Information Deet – will be sent out – Wednesday, March 13.  Instead of a Virtual Live Parents Night, you will be able to watch a screencast all about CMAS and have an opportunity to practice with your student at home to see what the CMAS test will look like.

Talent Show Update from Mrs. Batesmith

Look forward to attending the Talent Show on March 21st, 2024!
