Principal Message:

Asbury Community,

As we balance finishing this year out and planning for next year, I wanted to take a moment and share updates about staff for the 24/45 school year. We wish everyone the best as they transition to other places or new roles!

 So what transitions are happening?

  • Elinore Van Sant: Elinore will be transitioning from full time math in 4th grade to part time in order to take on more responsibilities with her new little one at home. She will continue teaching part time here at Asbury in her 4th grade math class and we are thrilled that she is able to stay on part time!
  • Tara Haskins: Tara is currently our amazing Mild-Moderate Special Education teacher and will be adding to her position next year to go full time. She is moving into the other .5 4th grade math position, so she and Elinore will job-share the 4th grade math position. Tara is a phenomenal teacher and we are thrilled to have her full time in our building!
  • Julie Chapman: Please join me in congratulating Julie Chapman in her official retirement! Julie has been supporting at Asbury for her career in DPS and we are thrilled to have her come back next year in a part time intervention teacher position!
  • Nicole McCoy: Nicole will be out on maternity leave through mid-September. We are still looking for an amazing Long-Term Substitute for the beginning of the school year for Ms. McCoy. Congratulations to our 3rd grade teachers!
  • Lauryn Arza: Lauryn will be stepping away for maternity leave starting at the end of September. We are looking for an amazing Long Term Substitute during her leave. Congratulations to our 3rd grade teachers!
  • Tanya Banks: Tanya has been our Health Tech Para through the pandemic and we are grateful for her support in that role. She is transitioning to a Dedicated Adult Support for a 2nd grader. We are thrilled she is continuing her support at Asbury!
  • Drew Gui: We are thrilled to have Drew continue his support at Asbury. He will be transitioning from a 1st grade 1-1 position to the Health Tech Para position.

Please reach out with any questions or concerns.

In Partnership,

Jeanna Doung

DPS Chromebook Collection Policy – “ALL chromebooks will be collected at the end of the school year for the summer.  No exceptions will be made” – Dots

  • ALL students will be bringing their chromebooks and chargers to school (3, 4, 5 who normally take them to and from school) Wednesday, 5/29 and they will remain at school.  They will NOT go home after that.
  • Please look for chargers if they are missing at home.  Students will be charged if chromebooks and/or chargers are not returned.  Thanks so much!
  • Please reach out to Amy_Ravel@dpsk12.net if you have any questions and she can direct you to the contact with Dots.

Mental Health Summer Services

The Denver Health Student Based Health Clinics will be providing mental health support for students over the summer through a program called TRUST who may be suicidal or have violent ideation, have a significant traumatic experience, or any other mental health concerns.  TRUST stands for Therapeutic REsponse and Urgent Stabilization Team.  School staff can make a referral using this form http://tinyurl.com/SBHCMHreferral.  TRUST operates year-round, so you can always refer students, but the summer is a great time to use this resource since school staff are not as readily available.   You can read more about the services provided here

Ridwell/Green Eagle Clothing Swap – Friday, May 17.

  • Every second, the equivalent of one truckload of clothes ends up in a landfill somewhere in the world. Instead of dumping it, let’s swap it!
  • Spring cleaning? Have something you aren’t wearing anymore? Share your style at the Asbury Clothing Swap!
  • Don’t have anything to trade in? No problem! Come in and grab some new (to you) clothes anyway!
  • (We are also accepting textiles for recycling through Ridwell)
  • Sponsored by your Green Eagles

  • For more information, please contact Stephanie_Vieau@dpsk12.net or Nicole_Johnsen@dpsk12.net.

Having Difficult Conversations with Children

When delivering tough news, such as information about a tragic event or a death, the goal is to balance helping children cope with the event and providing information. The following are some tips on how to have difficult conversations.

  2. Provide factual information and correct any misinformation
  3. Reaffirm safety and acknowledge any feelings
  4. Maintain a normal routine
  5. Rely on social support from friends and family
  6. Take care of your own needs

If you or your family members are experiencing a crisis, reach out to the following:
