Music Notes:

We began our year in music by learning a song written just for Asbury, called “Soar Like Eagles”, and we have been singing, playing, and learning ever since!

Students in the 4th and 5th grades have been learning songs from around the world, which they shared with the Asbury community in an evening program in March 2006.

We have recently received some new rhythm instruments and resource materials, and if all goes well, we will receive music books in January! These books and accompanying CD’s will allow access to greater multicultural music experiences, as well as increased opportunities for listening to the classics, learning to read music, and connecting music to the visual arts as well.

Students in 4th and 5th grades are learning to play the recorder, a flute-like instrument which dates to the middle ages. This provides additional opportunities to learn to read music notation, and is an excellent preparation for learning traditional band instruments as well.
