Art Room

Dear Parents,

Creativity is already flourshing in the art room. Students had their first art classes of the year in the new room, 213. For those who are new to Asbury let me introduce myself. My name is Jennifer Werner and I am the full time art teacher, (YEA, our first year of full time art!). I am so excited to be here everyday and can't wait to begin some of our new art programs. New this year: every ECE student will have art several times a month, a new Asbury art gallery in the lunchroom, and a service learning art team. The art gallery is an opportunity for students in grade 3-5 to sign up for a solo or group art show for the month. Please make sure you stop by every month to check out the new show. Our service learning art team will be working on a recycling program, helping with the student art gallery, organizing the student art show at Kaladi's and preparing for our annual mural painting day.

Our annual school art show will be at Kaladi's coffee shop in April. Mural day will be in early May. Parents you are always welcome in the art room and I am always looking for volunteers and classroom help. If you would like to volunteer please pick up a volunteer form in the office. Below is a list of materials that can always be used in the art room. Check those junk drawers, basements, and garages to see if you have stuff you just don't need. Your donations are very appreciated. Thank you.

We have a new lunchroom art gallery! Students were given the opportunity to apply for a gallery show. They had to fill out a gallery application to get into the show. Here is this year's schedule:

Jennifer Werner and her Kids helping Kids/Coffee Kids Art projects raised over $1,000 for children of the Tsunami in 2005. And in 2006, they raised $700 for Coffee Kids. http://www.coffeekids.org/

Miss. Werner and some students completed more panels for the Mural on the West Wall last May. It includes the Asbury Touchstone, take a moment to stop and read it (it's also on the home page). This years Mural painting will take place on in May, look for details in the Newsletter.
