PTA minutes for May 19, 2009

Principal’s Report:

Greening Committee: 3 parents have volunteered to over see the greening of Asbury and Learning Landscapes.

Technology Fund: 4 teachers attending a technology conference.

Para: Inquired as to PTA funding a para 2 hours which is about $5,300. No paras are in the budget for next year. The school needs a commitment for funds by the end of next week to guarantee one para will start in August. Also requested $700 to fund the MDS counselor.

Vice President’s Report:

Vice President: Position filled.

Secretary: Position vacant.

Volunteer forms to go home with students this week.

Treasurer’s Report:

Para Position: Lengthy and detailed discussion regarding the PTA budget and whether enough funds are available to fund and guarantee a 2-hour Para position and $700.00 for the MDS counseling position. If student numbers exceed expectations, PTA may receive funds back from the school for the Para position. PTA voted to fund 2 hours of Para time and the $700.00 for the MDS time (1 opposition vote). PTA also voted to rescind the teacher grants in order to pay for the para time.

Secretary’s Report:

Teacher Appreciation Lunch: Special thanks to Safeway for picking up the tab for the teacher’s lunch – more money for the para!
