PTA minutes for March 17, 2009
New Business
Clothing/Food Drive: The event
will be held on Saturday, April 4th. Weather permitting;
it will be in the courtyard, otherwise the auditorium. Donated items
will be brought in the week before.
Chuck E. Cheese fundraiser: There
will be a fundraiser at the Chuck E. Cheese on Hampden (near Santa
Fe) on Thursday, April 9th. 15% of the profits will go to
the PTA. Chuck E. Cheese will be at school that afternoon and each
child will get a coupon for 10 free tokens. Teachers eat free.
T-shirts: Left over T-shirts
will be sold for $2 at the clothing drive to attempt to clear out the
inventory. The contest for the new design will be held next fall as
part of the welcome back to school.
Report from the fundraising
committee: The committee made a list of the following priorities
for fundraising based on parent and teacher input: paras (which cost
$13,000 each), scholarships for enrichment activities and a die-cut
machine. Colleen is looking into grants and business sponsorships,
but there are a lot of DPS regulations to figure out. We are also
looking at possibly setting up a non-profit to avoid having to
contribute to DPS.
Craft fair: An idea for a
possible fundraiser. Kim went to one at Southmoor. Vendors pay $15
for a table and Asbury gets 10% of the money raised.
Box tops update: Almost $400
was raised and Ms. Vieau’s class won.
CSAP party: To be held March
20th. PTA will provide soda and licorice. The school is
providing pizza and a movie.
Water for teachers: Currently,
we rent the machine from Deep Rock and they provide the water. Last
year, Mrs. Waring did the research and found that Deep Rock provides
the best deal. It will cost about $400/ year. Right now the cooler is
in Mrs. Chapman’s room. If it is put back in the lounge, the cost
will probably be higher because everyone will have access to it.
PTA conference: The dates are
4/24 and 4/25. Kim will be attending on Friday and PTA will pay for
her registration.
Continuation: PTA will pay for
T-shirts, cake, punch, plates and silverware.
Miscellaneous feedback, things to
do, challenges: Some people are having difficulty using the
Target card and having a portion donated back to Asbury.
Feedback from parent workshop: The
parents were hoping for more specific tips and things to try. At CSC,
it was suggested that maybe some teachers could conduct a homework
workshop.
RIF: distribution will be 4/21-4/22 and
will have an Earth Day theme. Along with this, kids will be asked to
donate a gently used book.
Bond money: We will receive $61,000
over 2 years. Some of this will be used to fill the laptop carts.
How to get parents involved? We get
lots of offers for help, but don’t have anything specific for them
to do.
The meeting adjourned at 7:00
