Asbury Elementary School PTA Meeting Minutes November 11, 2008

Meetings usually held the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium. We encourage and welcome any parents to join and participate.

Principal’s Report:

• 3A Bond Issue: Since the 3A bond issue passed, Facility Management was contacted with regards to Asbury Elementary. No timeline yet on the bonds since the sale of the bonds has been temporarily postponed. Learning Landscapes representative will be at Asbury next week. Not sure what the “technology” will mean for Asbury.
• Computers: 5 more laptops have been purchased by the PTA.
• Kindergarten Roundup: Scheduled for 1/16/09
• Magnet School Deadlines: Applications are online and due 12/12/08.

• Flu Clinic: Had to cancel the Flu Clinic. We can try again next year.
• Committees: Working on.
• Asbury Technology/Achievement Fund: PTA purchased an additional five laptops this year.
• RIF: Went very well for Halloween.
• Crossing Guard: No paras have time to volunteer for this. Asbury will get beacon lights in January.
• Bookies Night: Scheduled for 11-12-08.
• English Class Meeting: 11/12/08. This was a pre-meeting for parents who wish to learn to speak English.
• Student Dance Request: No request received from Student Council.
• Math Night: Tentatively set for 2/11/09.
• Grant Writing: Presentation on grant writing by Sarah Oglesby.
• Spring Festival: Tabled for now.
• Parent Appreciation Event: Discussed types of events available.
• December Meeting: Instead of a meeting we will be holding a potluck dinner to meet and greet our Hispanic members.
• Meeting Date: The new monthly meeting date will change from the second Tuesday of each month to the third Tuesday of each month.

• Box Tops: Box Tops made $391.00.
• T-Shirt Contest: Discussed the possibility of another t-shirt contest.

Treasurer Report:

• Grocery Certificates: Certificates selling well.
