Asbury Elementary School
PTA Meeting Minutes October 14, 2008

Meetings usually held the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. in the faculty lounge. We encourage and welcome any parents to join and participate.

Principal’s Report:

• Asbury Elementary: Asbury Elementary has the honor as holding the title of “Distinguished” School. This title is based upon CSAP scores, reading, attendance, No Child Left Behind and other criteria. It was only one of ten schools chosen from the entire district. Way to go Asbury!
• Teaching Assistants: All teaching assistants are on board.
• Crossing Guard: Working on issue of crossing guards for Evans.
• Web Site: Working to update web site and change to electronic parent memos rather than paper memos. This will be tried out on one of the younger classes. Web Site will include PTA and CSC information.

Presidents’ Report:

• Carnival: We raised $1,800.00 this year. Discussed future changes.
• Flu Clinic: Set for night of parent/teachers conferences from 3:30 – 7:00. Sign-ups encouraged but walk-ins welcome. The shot costs $30.00 and Asbury receives $4.00 back from each shot.
• Committees: The PTA would like to set up committees with volunteers to head each committee.
• Asbury Technology/Achievement Fund: PTA purchased an additional five laptops this year.
• Misc. Items:
  • Holiday Crafts: PTA will inventory holiday crafts and offer them to the teachers.
  • Art Room Grant: PTA voted to approve Student Art Books grant.
  • Library Night: Suzanne Knight working on Library Night.
  • Movie Night: We discussed the pros and cons of hosting a movie night at school. This issue is tabled for spring.
• Parent/Teacher Conferences: The PTA will provide food for the teachers during parent teacher conferences.
• Spring Festival: We need to check with Ms. Werner as to her plans.

Vice President Report:

• Box Tops: Box Tops due 10/24/08.
• T-Shirt Contest: Discussed the possibility of another t-shirt contest.
• Student Council: Student council would like to host a dance for the 4th and 5th graders. Student council should present their plan at our next meeting.
• RIF: First distribution is set for 10/23 and 10/24. Lots of fun things planned.

Treasurer Report:

• Grocery Certificates: Certificates selling well.
