Dear Families,

The School Leadership Team (SLT), which is comprised of teachers and the administration, has been working diligently on a master schedule for next year.  We are excited to announce that we have increased the amount of time students receive physical education on a weekly basis and have also added some technology instruction into the specials rotation so that we can get our students ready for the new PARCC assessment that will begin in 2014.  This new assessment will be given on-line so we want to be sure our students have the computer skills to display their content knowledge and not be hampered by their knowledge of basic computer skills. Through the 2012 Mill Levy, we received money to purchase technology that will be used for students to gain computer proficiency.

In our new master schedule, an Intervention & Acceleration (I&A) Block was added daily.  During a daily 45 minute block, students will have a small group tailored to their learning needs.  For our gifted and advanced students, they will be receiving instruction that will challenge their thinking and extend the classroom grade level curriculum and  for students that need a targeted intervention, they will receive support during this time so that they are not missing any grade level core instruction.  The SLT is confident that this master schedule will allow our students to make individual progress towards grade level curriculum and advanced skills. Thanks to the 2012 mill levy, we will have a math intervention specialist for 3-5th grade to be sure our students have the computation skills they need to access grade level content.  We will also be offering reading intervention to students that fall below grade level in K-5 grade.  It is exciting to think of the impact these supports will have on student success!

On another note, all families will be receiving a parent satisfaction survey and a Parent Portal form to complete in the next few weeks.  Please complete both forms at your earliest convenience so that we can get feedback about our work at Asbury and to get you connected to your student’s data, attendance, and report cards at a quick glance on the Parent Portal.

Lastly, the PTA has been working diligently to have the 1st annual Spring Art Show and Concert. It will be held on school grounds May 16th from 5-7:30pm.  Students art work, a slide show, the Oakhurst Band and tinikling will be part of the festivities.  We will also be welcoming our new Kindergarten families this evening as well.  Come join the fun!

Best Wishes-

Hollene Davis
